Class 67
These high tech 125 MPH Spanish built locomotives were on the verge of being made redundant after the postal trains which they were built for were unfortunately lost to the railways. They have however recovered and now work on sleeper trains across Scotland and occasional use on top link passenger services and short freight trips.
Trains WorkedCurrent passenger trains worked in Scotland are all three of Scotrails Caledonian Sleeper workings to Fort William, Inverness and Aberdeen. Class 67s can often be seen on charter trains as well.Freight trains which can have class 67 haulage include the Lairg oil train and engineers trains. Examples recently worked ballast and spoil trains associated with the redevelopment of Edinburgh Waverley Station.
LocationsCurrently the best location to see these 125 MPH machines is Edinburgh as three different members of the class leave each night on the Caledonian Portions. Perhaps the best place to view and photograph class 67s is the scenic west highland line.© Copyright D Kirk, D Yellowlees |
